Stacey Johnson is a 2nd-degree Brown Belt in American Kenpo Karate under the instruction of Master Tommy Chavies, an 8th-degree black belt of Edmund Parker himself. She has worked to build her knowledge of American Kenpo Karate with Mr. Waterhouse. Through the process of learning this self-defense created by Edmund Parker, she has learned not only how to defend herself in dangerous situations but has also learned discipline, confidence, and how to generate power in a variety of ways to increase the effectiveness of her strikes, blocks, kicks, and maneuverability. Teacher, by profession, she says that American Kenpo Karate has opened her eyes to have situational awareness and self-awareness about the world around her. She says, "Awareness of my own body mechanics has allowed me to learn how to carry myself differently. I am aware of my surroundings and keep myself out of precarious positions, but am ready to defend myself if necessary. This is the knowledge that I have started to gain and continue to study with Mr. Chavies. As a female, building the ability to defend yourself will lead to greater independence and feelings of self empowerment"
To gain confidence is to banish fear. -Ed Parker
